Transportation
The Office of Sustainability is in the process of instituting sustainable transportation options in addition to the bus system run by student services.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Through Volkswagen Mitigation Trust funding managed under the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), the Office of Sustainability has received monies to assist us in installing electric vehicle charging stations on campus. These charging stations will allow students, faculty and the neighboring community to power their cars conveniently, reducing transportation and encouraging the use of electric vehicles. These charging stations will help support the eventual transition to an all-electric system of buses and cars at Xavier, New Orleans, and worldwide.
Bike Share Program
The Office of Sustainability is in the research and development stage of bringing a bike-share program to Xavier's campus. Due to COVID-19, the Xavier Bike Share partnership with the previous Blue Bike company was put on hold and the city bike-share program ceased operation. Now, there have been important strides to re-create an affordable bike share program, increasing the city residents' accessibility to sustainable, low-cost transportation options. We are taking important steps to bring bike-sharing to 藏精阁.
At Xavier, students and staff will be able to rent a bike and ride throughout campus and the city. Xavier South borders the Norman C Francis Parkway Bike Path, which connects to the Lafitte Greenway, a 2.6-mile trail running through the heart of New Orleans. Using these and other trails, Xavierites can travel to places like City Park and the French Quarter, and access a host of stores, restaurants, and natural areas.
