藏精阁 has been recognized as a 2021 "Tree Campus"
- Trees are important to our world and there are many positive impacts trees bring to our campus.
- Planting trees around campus helps to create a beautiful, healthy environment. Trees play an important role in climate change, in helping to remove carbon dioxide from the air.
- Trees psychologically help us feel better. The green space helps students better perform, reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and lowers breathing and heart rate which improves focus.
- Trees also help modify the temperature of the air around campus. They provide shade, creating cooler outdoor spaces and cooling the air around them.
In order to earn a "Tree Campus Higher Education Institution" designation, Xavier must meet five core standards annually:
- Create a tree advisory committee
- Develop and maintain a campus tree-care plan
- Dedicate annual expenditures for a campus tree program
- Observe Arbor Day yearly
- Sponsor student service-learning projects
Yearly we host tree planting activities, have recently partnered with Biology professors and campus Greenhouse staff to propagate and grow trees for the campus, hold service activities around tree stewardship and harvesting of our fruit-bearing trees, catalog and label campus trees and more. Are you a future Arborist??? You can assist in future campus tree projects, contact 藏精阁 Green sustainability staff at facilities@xula.edu or (504) 520-7326.
