Resident Resources
Due to the limited availability of on-campus housing, Xavier establishes guidelines for awarding housing contracts. Local students who live within commuting distance and transfer students are the lowest priority when assignments are made. Assignments are handled on a first-come, first-served basis using the date the Acceptance Deposit and Housing Application Forms are received. Both the Acceptance Deposit and Housing Application must be submitted before a student can be offered a housing contract.
Initial contracts for new fall term students will be issued by early April. Signed contracts with the required room reservation fee must be returned by the date indicated on the agreement. This fee is non-refundable.
This process is monitored closely. Students who do not return the contract within the allotted time will have their contract canceled and will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list.
Students admitted to the University may make their own off-campus living arrangements if there are no campus vacancies. The Housing Office may be able to provide limited assistance or information regarding off-campus housing.
Special Note: Notice of cancellation to Admissions, Financial Aid, Fiscal Services, or the Registrar’s Office does not count as cancellation of a current Housing Agreement. The Office of Residential Education must be officially notified.
Current residents, including graduating seniors, who will not return to campus housing the next semester or year must officially cancel housing by the deadline listed below to be eligible for a housing deposit refund. Students must download and save the Cancellation Form in a word processing format, complete it, save it, and email it as an attachment to reslife@xula.edu. Students may also print the Cancellation Form, complete it, and submit it to the Office of Residential Education.
Housing refund policy:
On or before April 1 for fall, or November 1 for spring: $200 deposit refunded.
April 1 to May 31: $100 deposit refunded.
June 1 to July 31: $0 refunded, 100% forfeiture.
August 1 to the first day of official check-in: 100% forfeiture plus a $250 late cancellation penalty fee assessed if enrolled.
December 20 to the first day of official check-in: 100% forfeiture plus a $250 late cancellation penalty fee assessed if enrolled.
As of the official check-in date: 100% deposit and room cost forfeiture plus prorated board cost.
The $100 reservation fee paid as a new or transfer student is non-refundable. The refund schedule only applies to the $200 deposit paid by upperclassmen.
The Residence Hall Staff consists of a Hall Director, Hall Advisors, and Resident Assistants. All residence halls are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Director supervises the residence hall staff and monitors facility maintenance, programming, and daily hall operations. Hall Advisors are university staff members with supervisory authority and responsibility for hall operations. The Hall Advisor reports to the Hall Director. The Hall Director and Hall Advisor supervise the Resident Assistant.
FAQ
Xavier is delighted that students have chosen the University and looks forward to welcoming them into the Xavier Family. The first year of college can be exciting and adventurous, with many opportunities outside the classroom to participate in activities and meet new people. These experiences often become some of the most meaningful memories of a student’s college career.
Living in a residence hall is one way to take advantage of these opportunities. Residence hall living at Xavier is designed to provide a unique experience and is considered a vital part of the educational process. Research shows that students who live in residence halls are more likely to graduate and feel integrated into the college experience.
Students will have the opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds whose cultures, attitudes, and ideals may be similar or different from their own. Xavier believes the residence hall environment helps students become well-informed and able to adapt to living in a multicultural world.
To ensure the best experience, students must participate in the housing process. Once a student receives the Housing Reservation Form from the Admissions Office and submits the $100 housing reservation fee for the academic year, they will begin receiving communications from the Housing Office. The $100 housing reservation fee is non-refundable for the academic year. Students interested in residing on campus for the summer must pay an additional non-refundable $55 reservation fee.
Once the $100 reservation fee has been received, the Office of Residential Education will send an email with web access to complete the housing application online. Students must use their assigned ID and PIN number to access the application. Instructions and detailed information will be provided.
The housing application information is used for room assignments for the academic year. The Housing Application will not be processed until the Office of Residential Education receives the $100 housing reservation fee. All freshman females will be assigned to St. Katharine Drexel Hall. Freshman males will be assigned to St. Michael Hall. Room assignments are processed on a first-come, first-served basis according to receipt of the reservation fee and online housing application.
First-year female students invited to participate in Xavier Exponential may reside in the Living Learning Center.
Upon check-in, students will receive a housing confirmation with their hall assignment and check-in procedures, including their check-in time. Residence halls open on the first day of Orientation for check-in. Housing reservations will be canceled after 12:00 midnight on the first day of check-in unless prior written notification of late arrival has been submitted to the Office of Residential Education.
Campus residents are required to pay $20 in residence hall dues. This amount is assessed at registration. Residence hall dues are used to provide educational, social, and community service involvement programs for residents.
Students with further questions may email reslife@xula.edu. Xavier looks forward to meeting students in the fall.
