The History Department supports two major degree options: History B.A. and Social Studies Education B.A. The History B.A. requires two courses at the 1000 level (or higher), HIST 2010, HIST 2020, HIST 2415, five courses at the 3000-level or higher, HIST 4415, HIST 4999 and three courses in foreign languages.  Students are encouraged (but not required) to pursue a focus in one of the following areas: law, history and social justice; history and global societies; public history; or history and visual culture.

The Social Studies Education B.A. is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a career in middle school or secondary education. In addition to the requirements established by the Education department, students are expected to complete 27 hours of history course work including two courses at the 1000-level, HIST 2010, HIST 2020, HIST 2415, and at least nine hours of 3000- or 4000- level courses.

For the history minor option, students must earn 18 hours in HIST offerings. Required courses are HIST2010 and HIST 2020. The additional 12 semester hours must include at least 3 semester hours at the 3000-4000 level.
