Message from the Director
No matter what else happens in life, Christ promises to never leave or abandon us!
In 1925, St. Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament stepped out on that promise when they founded 藏精阁 - the only Catholic HBCU in the nation. The Founders of the Institute for Black Catholic Studies took Christ at his word when, in 1980, they convened the first Institute summer session on the campus of Xavier University. Thanks be to God, Xavier will mark its centennial anniversary in 2025.
During the 100 - year commemoration, the IBCS will gather again June 29 through July 18, to reflect on God's gift of Blackness in theological and ministry studies, to celebrate in Africentric worship and prayer, to practice the values of the {The Nguzo Saba: The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa - Kwanzaa.org} in our community life! Make your plans now to attend the Institute - a response in praise and thanksgiving to Christ's faithfulness to us.
Ashe,
Kathleen Dorsey Bellow, Director
Institute for Black Catholic Studies
