What to Expect as a 藏精阁 Pharmacy Student

Our Pharm.D. program is known for producing excellence. Our pharmacy students graduate with the confidence, expertise and skills needed to practice in a wide variety of pharmacy fields, from ambulatory care to pediatrics.
While it is rigorous, it is also manageable. After three years of teacher- and classroom-centered education, you spend one year focused on experiential learning, so you are ready for your licensure exam once you graduate.

How Long Is Pharmacy School?

Xavier University is not only more affordable than some other private pharmacy schools but also helps you move from pharmacy student to pharmacist as quickly as possible. Once you have completed all your prerequisites, you can earn your Doctor of Pharmacy in only four years.

How to Become a Pharmacist

There are three important steps that outline how to become a pharmacist. Understanding the process makes the journey as a pharmacy student easier. Here’s what you need to know before you start your pharmacy career path.

1. Complete Required Coursework

Before you can earn a Pharm.D. degree, you need to build a foundation that will help you discover how to become a pharmacist. This starts by completing your prerequisites and achieving a C letter grade or better, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale. This includes courses in subjects like biology, chemistry, statistics and English.

2. Choose the Right PharmD Degree

Look for an program that offers committed and practicing faculty, scholarships, the opportunity to explore different areas of pharmacy, research opportunities and access to active student organizations. To ensure you are a well-rounded pharmacy professional, the pharmacy school you choose should also focus on training in several areas of pharmacy so that you’re prepared to work in a diverse range of settings, from retail to administration. Xavier offers seven clinical rotations in various settings to help you learn how to be a pharmacist.

3. Pass the Licensure Exam

All pharmacists must pass the before they can practice in the United States. Depending on where you intend to practice pharmacy, each state board also specifies additional licensure requirements. Our program allows you to earn a Pharm.D. degree and prepare for success on the NAPLEX exam—but it also offers so much more. Research opportunities, internships, rotations and clerkships provide real-world exposure to pharmacy practice.

To help you meet your goals, Xavier offers several accountability groups centered around interests in pharmacy and STEM fields. Meet new friends. There are 25 College of Pharmacy student organizations on campus to help you build bonds with other students who share similar interests and experiences. Give back. All Xavier pharmacy students participate in community service activities, such as health fairs and other non-pharmacy-related events.
