Yes, all undergraduate students are required to have medical insurance that will cover them in the New Orleans area. Common insurance plans that do not typically meet this requirement are: Kaiser Permanente, Out-of-State Medicaid plans, and most state-specific HMO/PPO plans.

No, only undergraduate students are automatically enrolled. Graduate students are eligible to enroll on a voluntary basis.  Graduate students may purchase coverage by contacting Gallagher Student Health & Risk @ (800)406-5207 or visit gallagherstudent.com and click on Graduate Student Direct Pay Enroll

Exception: The Physician Assistant Program requires their students to be automatically enrolled in the school-sponsored student insurance and they are required to complete a waiver form @ during the waiver period.

Yes, you can enroll your eligible dependent(s) by going to  and clicking on “Dependent Enroll”.  Dependent coverage must be for the same time period as your own coverage.

Fall wavier period → May – September

Spring waiver period → December – January

Students are notified via their ؾ email by Gallagher Student Health when they are eligible to complete the waiver form.

If you have opted out of SHIP but wish to enroll later, you may only do so if you experience a qualifying event. You will be required to complete a qualifying event form with supporting documentation proving loss of coverage to the Insurance Enrollment and Verification Office within 30 days of the qualifying event.

  • Involuntary loss of coverage from another health insurance plan
  • Reaching the age limit of another health insurance plan
  • Loss of health insurance through a marriage or divorce

Yes, Students are required to complete a waiver on-line at the beginning of each academic year they are enrolled at Xavier. Students who are entering for the first time during spring semester must complete a waiver during the spring waiver period. Spring waivers only cover the remainder of the academic year, students returning in the following fall will be required to complete a waiver during the upcoming fall waiver period.

Students who are covered by Louisiana Medicaid are required to upload a copy of the front and back of their insurance card.Once the verification team receives a copy of the front and back of the insurance card and it is confirmed that it is Louisiana Medicaid your waiver will be approved.

Students whose waivers are denied will receive an email from Gallagher. Emails are sent to the email address you registered with @ . If you do not follow up with Gallagher or Student Health Services to resolve the issues with your waiver request, you will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and the premium will not be removed from your student account. This must be resolved before the posted waiver deadline.

Digital ID Cards can be downloaded or printed through /MyAccount, where you can also request delivery of a permanent ID card through the US mail. Students will also receive information regarding claim status and Explanation of Benefits (EOB’s) on this site.
