Sexual Assault Resources

Sexual assault ranges from unwanted touching to rape. Sexual assault occurs when a person does not, or is unable to consent to sexual activity. A person is unable to consent when he or she is forced, threatened, intimidated or is mentally or physically incapacitated. Rape is defined as forced sex. Sexual assault is unwanted sexual touching and fondling that stops short of rape or attempted rape.

Date rape, sexual assault, and rape are all pressing matters. Each year, students across college campuses report sexual assaults that occurred on or off campus. The statistics are alarming and many cases go unreported as students do not report sexual assaults to anyone. Sexual Harassment Resources

Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972. The OCR defines harassment as conduct of a sexual nature that is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive to limit a student's ability to participate in or benefit from the educational program, or to create a hostile or abusive educational environment.

It is unlawful to harass a person because of that person's sex. Harassment can include "sexual harassment" or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature. Harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature, however, and can include offensive remarks about a person's sex.
