Chapter 20 - Personal Care Attendants (PCAs)

ؾ (ؾ) is committed to providing access to all. One way that ؾ does this is by acknowledging that some students may require a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) while in the learning/living environment.

Please be aware:

  • ؾ does not provide PCA services.
  • PCAs are hired, paid and employed by the student they are assisting.
  • PCAs are not classroom or lab assistants.
  • PCAs are required to abide by all ؾ policies, including but not limited to the Student Code of Conduct, Office of Housing & Residence Life, and Dining Services rules and regulations.
  • PCAs are only permitted in the living environment based on the needs of the student andwithinOffice of Housing & Residence Life and Dining Services rules and regulations.
  • PCAs arenon-active participants in the academic,learningand living environments.
    • Non-active participantmeans thePCA should not be auditing or taking the class, asking questions, making comments or taking an active role in the classroom orin meetings.
    • Academic/learning environmentsinclude, butarenot limited to, classrooms, labs, research testing areas, group meetings, faculty/student meetings, advisor meetings or other academic events.
    • Living environmentsinclude club participation, residential areas, dining halls, ؾ non-academic resources departments/areas, and other social events.

Inorder to bring a PCA to ؾ, a studentmust register with Disability Services (ODS) prior to the PCA attending classeswith a student.The studentmustidentify the classes the PCA will attend through ODS On-line Services each term.

If a PCAis requiredwhile living in the residence halls,the studentmust register and request housing accommodations through the Office of Disability Services.
